Change as an opportunity and not as a risk”. This is the title of the speech given by Claudio Fornengo, owner of AMT, a company associated with A.P.I., who on 8 May, at the invitation of Professor Giovanni Toletti, participated in an Economics lesson at the Faculty of Automation Engineering and Electronic Engineering. In his speech, Fornengo told the students about his path from young engineer graduated at the same university to entrepreneur in the family business. “First of all – Fornengo explained – I thanked the Politecnico di Milano for giving me the opportunity to graduate in Mechanical Engineering several years ago and for offering me today the opportunity to tell my professional story. I also introduced my father as my great friend, life example and mentor as well as founder of the company AMT Srl that I manage today.
Starting with quotes from Darwin, Steve Jobs, Tim Berners Lee, Jack Welch, the entrepreneur from Cernusco sul Naviglio, a specialist in steel pipes tailored for customers and in just-in-time service, got to the heart of his speech focused on change.
“I wanted to remind them,” Fornengo continued, “of the need, both in the private and professional spheres, to keep learning new things and to have to change our minds over and over again in order to always be able to seize the opportunities that life offers us. The individual’s ability to adapt to different situations in life was also typical of my father Cesare Fornengo, who was present in the courtroom and recalled his long history full of significant events. Our success was not only a matter of luck but also of courage.
We must be attentive and open – he concluded – to the world and to change as well as to the need for continuous training as a fundamental element to be able to listen to and understand first the novelties and then the stimuli that surround us because an engineering degree is only the beginning of a long journey.
